The luminescence properties of Eu2+-doped dibarium magnesium phosphates, Ba2MgP4O13 and Ba2Mg(PO4)(2), are investigated by excitation and emission spectroscopy. The Ba2MgP4O13 : Eu2+ phosphor shows blue emission peaking at 410 nm with a bandwidth of 40 nm. This gives quite different spectral features from those of the Ba2Mg(PO4)(2) : Eu2+ phosphor which has a broad yellow-green emission peaking at 573 nm with a bandwidth of 150 nm. The excitation bands are observed to extend from about 220 to 450 nm in these two dibarium magnesium phosphates. The differences in spectral features and temporal behaviors between the Ba2MgP4O13 : Eu2+ and Ba2Mg(PO4)(2) : Eu2+ phosphors are discussed in relation with structural properties of the host lattices.
