摘要
Polystyrene microspheres filled with fluorescent 1,8-naphthalimide derivatives were prepared through adsorption and embedment method. The applied two-stage dispersion polymerization, whose addition of the dyes was deferred until the nucleation stage was complete, shows advantages in controlling the final particle size and improving the particle uniformity for embedment method compared to conventional one-stage dispersion polymerization. Embedment method was found more effective in implanting dyes than adsorption method. All prepared microspheres present intense fluorescence due to the large number of dye molecules encapsulated. The fluorescence of microspheres are less influenced by polar solvent than that of pure dye solution, which means that the microsphere matrix provides good protection of dye molecules from medium outside. This type of microspheres has potential application in biomedical field.
