A new method for the direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation of coherent LFM signals with time-varying direction vectors based on Matching Pursuit (MP) signal sparse decomposition is presented. DOA estimation is made by decomposing the array output over an over-complete matrix dictionary for the beat atom at each step of MP, the atoms of the dictionary are matrixes established according to the LFM signals'; frequency parameters and array geometry. This method need not apply spatial smoothing; it has higher precision than the conventional spatial time-frequency distribution (STFD) based methods, especially in the case of lower SNR, multiple signals and insufficient samples. Theoretic analysis and numerical simulations are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.
