摘要

The state-of-the art power systems need more and more energy storage equipment in order to improve reliability of different sensible loads supply. Among ,many kinds of storage, contemporary lead acid batteries are, without a doubt, in the dominant position. The paper presents development on some other interesting types of electrochemical batteries, which in the nearest future will be able to challenge the existing ones in terms of the actually used storage. After comparison of the specific energy storage parameters of widely used lead-acid and nickel-cadmium batteries against some promising new types (i.e., NiMh, Li-lon, and NiNaCl-hot batteries), a brief descriptions of construction and basic properties are provided respectively. Additionally a presentation of ultracapacitors, which are similar to electrochemical batteries, has been added. In the presentation of the features of new batteries, some examples of research projects which are oriented on the applications of new batteries for the power system have been pointed out.
