When using equal strength beam to calibrate fiber Bragg grating (FBG) strain sensor, the thickness of encapsulation slice (or diameter of encapsulation steel tube) will affect the calibration result because of bend distortion of equal strength beam. By analyzing the calibration process, a strain correct coefficient is introduced to modify the result according to the work principle of equal strength beam. And the strain correct coefficients of bare FBG and steel tube packaged FBG strain sensor (diameter is 1.55 mm) are also computed. Result shows that when applying equal strength beam to calibrate strain, the effect of the thickness of encapsulation slice (or diameter of encapsulation steel tube) must be considered. Lastly, the calibration results of steel tube packaged FBG strain sensor based on equal strength beam calibration method and universal experiment machine were compared, the modified calibration results of equal strength beam method agree with the results of universal experiment machine method.
