摘要

The feasibility of using the molten salt technique in preparing porous ceramics was illustrated by using porous CaTiO3, TiC and Si 3N4 as working tools. Low melting salts such as alkali chlorides could act as either reaction/sintering media or pore-formers, or both, thus leading to reduced synthesis temperatures and/or increased levels of porosity. Porous CaTiO3 containing 65% apparent porosity was successfully prepared after 5 h at 950 °C by using CaCI 2 as the reaction medium, porous TiC containing 50% apparent porosity prepared after 4 h at 1100 °C by using the KCI-NaCI eutectic salt as both the reaction medium and the pore former, and porous Si 3N4 containing 59% apparent porosity prepared at 1350-1450 °C by using KCI as the pore former. The above promising results suggested that after further development the molten salt technique could be used to prepare various types of high quality porous ceramics for industrial applications.
