摘要

Certain narrow, two-way roads lack hard barriers in the middle separating the two directions of motion, thus forcing oppositely directed vehicles to slow down and pass each other at low speeds for safety when they meet. This interaction between the two directions of motion prominently affects the characteristics of all traffic flow, causing delays, changes in vehicle velocity and congestion. This paper analyzes the behavior rules of drivers when oppositely directed vehicles meet and proposes a cellular automata (CA) model for interacting two-way vehicle flows. Numerical simulations reveal the traffic flow patterns influenced by interacting two-way traffic.
