摘要

Background. - In France, antimicrobial management teams (AMT) have been recommended by a directive of the health authorities in 2002. They are commissioned to apply good use of antibiotics in hospitals and give counseling to the wards physicians. Ten years after their creation, at a moment where bacterial resistance to antibiotics is now considered as a major issue, it is the right time to review their impact.
Methods. - A review of the existing literature associated with an analysis of the activity of the Henri- Mondor hospital AMT.
Results. - Most of the French hospitals have now AMT, but their composition is highly variable. AMT are dedicated to perform educative formation to the prescribers and effective audit of prescriptions provided from calls of the wards physicians, alerts from the lab or the hospital pharmacy, or control of the prescriptions. Published studies have shown that AMT may have a positive impact on antibiotic use, leading in some cases to lower rates of antibiotic resistance. Some studies have also suggested that AST can improve patients' outcome.
Conclusions. - AMT are emerging as a major component of the antimicrobial stewardship program in French hospitals. Their program should include prospective audit of prescription with interaction with the prescriber and evaluation of its efficacy.
