Aimed at the problem of determining the protectionscope of steep inclined upper-protective layer of pitching oblique mining, based on the method of three- dimensional fast Lagrange method, the dynamic development process of stress distribution and deformation of protected coal seam with exploitation of steeply inclined protective seam of pitching oblique mining are simulated. Besides, the law of the stress and normal deformation are analyzed with the advance of upper protective layer coalface; according to the protection criterion of stress relief criterion and normal deformation criterion of protected seam, the protection angle on the dip and strike are ascertained. The result shows that the protection angles on the upper and bottom dip direction are 81.5 degrees and 74 degrees, respectively; while the protection angle on strike direction are variational, ranging from 30 degrees to 52 degrees(;) the most largest protection angle is in the middle pitching oblique coalface. By comparison with the field investigation, the result of the numerical simulation is consistent with the field investigation. This research provides significant reference value to the prevention of coal and gas outburst with the same mining condition.
