摘要

The prevalence of "pre-diabetes" and some associated risk factors among enlisted individuals a parts per thousand yen40-year old in Taif, Saudi Arabia was studied. An instrument together with clinical screening was used. The participants' median age was 45 years, IQR = 5, mean body mass index (BMI) was 28.9 +/- 4.1 kg/m(2). Also, 51(43.6 %, N = 117) were overweight, 49(41.8 %) were obese. The mean waist circumference was 100.17 +/- 9.65. Twenty-five (21.4 %) subjects had a random blood sugar (RBS) a parts per thousand yenaEuro parts per thousand 200 mg%, 14(12.0 %) known diabetics, 11(9.4 %) undiagnosed. The two groups did not differ in their RBS status [X (2) (1) = 0.36, P > 0.05]. Having RBS a parts per thousand yenaEuro parts per thousand 200 mg% among known diabetics was significantly higher than that among other subjects (OR = 37.8, 95 % CI 9.4, 152.4). The RBS levels did not differ by BMI or waist circumference [H(3) = 2.68, P = 0.44, U = -0.352, P = 0.72, respectively]. Prediabetes, uncontrolled - and controlled diabetes are prevalent among the Saudi enlisted individuals 40 or above. Failure of obesity to influence hyperglycemia could be due to the time factor joining the two variables. A preventive approach to control the prediabetes is a priority.
