An infrared scene and point target simulator is designed and built for infrared guiding devices development. In order to simulate infrared point target, decoys and background scene simultaneously, the simulator consists of an infrared scene channel, a point target channel and four point decoy channels. The construction and the functions are described. The performances of the simulator are investigated experimentally. The spatial resolution of the projected IR imaging is 10 lp/mm. The spot diameter of the IR point sources can be varied in the range of 42 μm to 499 μm. The experimental results indicate that the infrared simulator can be used in Hardware-in-the-loop simulation system.
