摘要

Neurotoxic and diverse other symptoms have been reported by passengers and crewmembers of commercial aircrafts and described as %26quot;aerotoxic syndrom%26quot;. Tricresyl phosphate (TCP) as a component of the engine oil, when released into the pressurized cabin during normal operation and/or misoperation of engines (leak seals), is assumed as causing the symptoms. Ortho-TCPs are the most toxic compounds of all TCP-isomeres. Monoortho and diortho isomers are assumed to be contained in higher concentration in engine oils, also being more toxic. This work was aimed to synthezise all ten isomers of TCP, separate them by gas chromatography and identify them by mass spectrometry in order to enable an investigation into the distribution of the TCP isomers in 90 air samples collected from two aircraft types and engine oil samples. Monoortho and dioortho TCP were not detected. In 15% of the samples only, TCP was detected amounting to 2 to 67 ng/m(3) during normal flight operation which is in the concentration range of the limit of detection. In one aircraft in the course of a pilot training including 50 cycles of touch down and go, maximum TCP concentrations of 65 ng/m(3) (flight deck) and 61 ng/m3 (rear galley), respectively, were measured. The engine oils contained %26lt;20 mu g/kg (0,02 ppm) ortho TCP per isomer.
