The reality of ash pollinosis

The reality of ash pollinosis was confirmed 10 years ago. Nevertheless, the clinical consequences of ash pollen sensitization have long been difficult to evaluate. The diagnosis of this pollinosis has greatly benefited from the knowledge of allergens on a molecular level. In 2010, an allergist will still rely on the anamnestic data and on his knowledge of the pollinic environment, but he now has the necessary tools to distinguish sensitization to ash mediated by the major allergen from sensitization induced by cross-reacting panallergens whose clinical relevance is not clearly established. These new data allow better therapeutic decisions when dealing with ash pollen sensitization.
