摘要

Pathogenic bacteria in sewage from ships are a threat to the marine environment and port security. However, most control regimes do not have an effective method for inspecting sewage; therefore, a suitable instrument is needed. This article reports single cell detection employing laser-induced fluorescence of Escherichia coli in marine sewage from a microfluidic chip with embedded optical fibers. Single E. Coli cells were determined following staining with fluorescein with a signal-to-noise ratio exceeding five.
