This paper presents the use of a molecular beacon probe carrying fluorescein and pyrene to produce a combination of integrated on-off signal patterns in response to DNA sequences with the base at a designated polymorphic site varying between guanine and non-guanine nucleotides. Therefore the proposed concept is suitable for single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) probe development.
