Embedded-based modular NC systems

摘要

Following the discussion of the problems for the current computer numerical control (CNC) systems, such as the lack of tailorability, insufficient utilization of resources, and the complexity of interconnections based upon parallel interfaces, etc., this paper presents the work on embedded-based modular numerical control (NC) systems. The proposed systems take advantage of the most recent advances in embedded technology. They are composed of a number of embedded-based modules, and employ a flexible modular structure. Two kinds of such systems are introduced in detail, including their structures, implementations and functions. The first is a basic system with common NC functions. The second is a network NC system with an NC core server module, which allows the sharing and sufficient use of certain NC resources. To comply with the trend of network-based manufacturing, much attention has been paid to network-based remote control in NC, such as remote operation, monitoring and task assignments, etc. The proposed embedded-based modular NC systems have the advantages of high performance-cost ratio, plug and play, tailorability, open structure, etc. They demonstrate a promising alternative to developing NC systems.
