摘要

Periodontitis is a major cause of tooth loss, which affects more than 80% of people. Thus far, little is known about the changes in mRNA expression in periodontal ligaments during chronic periodontitis. The objective of this study was to identify differentially expressed mRNAs related to chronic periodontitis, which may offer insight into chronic periodontitis treatment. The gene expression profiles of periodontal ligaments from five chronic periodontitis patients and five healthy controls were determined using oligonucleotide microarray. Bioinformatic analyses, including Gene Oncology (GO) and KEGG pathway, were performed to identify genes and pathways associated with chronic periodontitis. The signal transduction network was established to determine the core genes regulating chronic periodontitis processes. A set of genes was differentially expressed in periodontal ligaments from chronic periodontitis patients. A total of 317 GO terms and 145 common pathways were identified. All various gene interactions in the Signal-Net were analyzed. IGF1R, FGFR2, and PDGFRA were the most significantly altered genes. We identified a novel gene expression pattern for chronic periodontitis. Thus, further study could provide new targets for chronic periodontitis treatment.
