A new bromobenzyl methyl sulphoxide from marine red alga Symphyocladia latiuscula

A new bromophenol, 2,3,6-tribromo-4,5-dihydroxybenzyl methyl sulphoxide, was isolated from the EtOH extract of the marine alga Symphyocladia latiuscula. Its structure was confirmed by spectroscopic methods (1D- and 2D-NMR, HR-ESI-MS). This new bromophenol showed moderate antifungal activity against Candida albicans with MIC value of 37.5 mu gmL(1).
