Mixed-valence Cobalt(II/III) carboxylate clusters: (Co4CO2III)-C-II andCo(II)CO(2)(III) complexes from the use of 2-(Hydroxymethyl)pyridine

摘要

Aerobic reactions Of CO(O2CR)(2) with 2-(hydroxymethyl)pyridine (hmpH), in the presence Of ClO4- counterions give the hexanuclear, mixed-valence clusters [(CO4CO2III)-C-II(O2CR)(4)- (hmp)(8)](ClO4)(2) [R = Me (1), Ph (2)] which possess the unprecedented [(CO4CO2III)-C-II(mu(3)-OR'),(mu-OR')(4)]" [R' = (2-pyridyl)CH2-] core. Replacement of ClO4- by N-3(-) in the reaction mixture that gives I leads to the linear complex [Co-3-(III,II,III)(O2CMe)(2)(N-3)(2)(hmp)4(]) (3). Q-band EPR spectra and variabletemperature magnetic susceptibility studies for 1 and 2 provide strong evidence that the Co-II ions are antiferromagnetically coupled.
