摘要

Three-dimensional fluid flow in the tundish with two flow control configurations was simulated. The k-ε two-equation model was used to model turbulence. Inclusion motion and trajectories were calculated by considering drag force and buoyancy force, coupling the effect of turbulent fluctuation (Random Walk Model). The space above the weir is detrimental to inclusion removal due to inducing a big fluid flow velocity and a strong turbulence, and the molten steel moves slightly downwards in the outlet zone. A full weir (with the same height as the bulk, but with holes in the weir) creates a fluid flow pattern favoring the removal of inclusions. Under the condition of the weir with optimized holes, if both of the weir and the bulk depth are 1000 mm, 32% of 50μm inclusions can be safely removed in the tundish, however, if the tundish with a 660 mm weir and 780 mm bulk depth, only 13% of 50μm inclusions can be safely removed. The tundish depth should be more than 1000mm in order to remove more inclusions and prevent the vortex formation which induces slag emulsification and inclusion re-entrainment.
