Monitoring of cationic photopolymerization with stilbene derivatives as fluorescent probes

Eight substituted stilbenes were used as fluorescence probes (concn. 0.005 mol/L) for following the cationic polymerization of (CH(2)=CHO(CH(2))(2)OCH(2))(2) in thin layers (0.1 mm) photoinitiated with Ph(2)IPF(6) (1% by mass) under UV irradn. 3,4-(Dimethylenedioxy)-4-cyanostilbene was found the most efficient probe of the polymerization.
