In this paper, a new 12/7-pole flux-switching permanent magnet (FSPM) motor is proposed. Similar to the conventional FSPM motor, both the armature windings and permanent magnets of the proposed 12/7-pole FSPM motor are housed on the stator, whereas the rotor is composed of a simple iron core with salient teeth. According to magnetic field analysis results, a slot vector graph of the 12/7-pole FSPM motor can be drawn, based on which the armature winding can be designed, and the full-pitched winding (FW) is adopted. Then, several leading parameters of the FW-FSPM motor are optimally designed to obtain the maximum torque output and minimum torque ripple. By using finite-element analysis, the characteristics and performances of the proposed motor are assessed. Moreover, the proposed machine is quantitatively compared with its counterpart with conventional nonoverlapped winding. The comparison results validate that its performance, particularly the torque output, can be significantly improved.
