In a domestic environment many potential inducers of sensitization and allergic symptoms will be found. Mite, dog and cat allergens are well-known and well-characterized, but in addition others, more rare allergens in indoor environment should be considered if the cause of allergic symptoms is unclear. In indoor environments as well as in several workplaces and in direct contact to human and animal inhabitants health and storage pests are detected. They are possible carriers of pathogens or parasites with negative impact on human or other mammals' health. Less knowledge exists concerning their role as allergens. Examples for health pests and "undesirable subtenants" in dwellings are described like silverfish, flies and cockroaches as well as health and storage pests as allergen sources, taking into account their sensitization prevalence and identified single allergens.
