摘要

Arterial stiffening is the hallmark of normal vascular aging, and early acceleration of the stiffening process represents 1 of the major pathologies of the cardiovascular system (1,2). During the last 50 years, thanks to the development of easy to use and reasonably reproducible noninvasive methods to measure arterial stiffness (3), the extensive clinical investigation of the human arterial elastic properties led to major advancements in the understanding of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and particularly the (patho)physiology of arterial hypertension (1,2).
