摘要
Magnetic properties, heat capacity, and magnetocaloric effect (MCE) of the TmGa single crystal synthesized by arc melting are investigated. The magnetization behavior displays apparently anisotropy. The measured specific heat reveals multiple magnetic phase transitions below the Curie temperature T-C similar to 15 K, implying the complex interactions in TmGa. The sample exhibits giant reversible anisotropic MCE based on the FM transition at T-C, indicating a large magnetocaloric direction of a-axis. Along b- and c-axis, a positive MCE at T-C and a negative one at low temperatures are both observed, which may be caused by the FM order and spin-reorientation behaviors. The coexistence of positive and negative MCE implies that both the magnetizing and demagnetizing processes can be employed for cooling.
