Enhancing the signal-to-noise ratio of leak detection signal is an important approach to improve the performance of leak detection and locationing. According to the engineering practice of pipe leak detection and locationing, this paper proposes a new method to suppress the noise of leak detection signal, the adaptive noise cancellation method based on error whitening criterion. Controlling the linear prediction of leak detection signal with error whitening criterion, we can obtain a signal that is uncorrelated with leak signal but correlated with noise. Using this signal as the reference input of the adaptive noise canceller, the noise with autocorrelation length shorter than that of the leak detection signal can be cancelled effectively. Experiment results and practical applications indicate that the proposed method can suppress the noise of leak detection signal effectively.
