摘要

Plant species are highly niche-specific, and with short dispersal distances, therefore can survive effectively permanently in quite small areas if pollen and seed dispersers are conserved. Plant diversity is compromised by logging, even selective. Plant species diversity and endemism are broadly correlated with that of overall biodiversity, vertebrate diversity not. Biodiversity conservation therefore requires strict protection of sufficient small areas representative of all habitats, including principal soils, and policies to ensure connectivity of similar including secondary vegetation corridors between them and large conservation areas.
