摘要

The function of the IbMADS10 cloned from sweetpotato [Ipomoea batatas (L.) Lam.] cv. Beniazuma, was analyzed by introducing the gene into Arabidopsis thaliana. The IbMADS10 gene was found to have a high amino acid sequence homology with the members of the MADS-box family of transcription factors particularly with DEFH28 of Antirrhinum majus (64%) and BpMADS4 of Betula pendula (61%) of the SQUA subfamily. The transformed Arabidopsis plants over-expressing the IbMADS10 gene showed high accumulation of the anthocyanin pigments, which was enhanced by the addition of sucrose in the medium. The role of IbMADS10 gene in the control of the anthocyanin pigments in sweetpotato was elucidated, which was similar to the function of the transparent testa (tt) genes of Arabidopsis thaliana. The expression of the transformed Arabidopis plants enforce the speculation that the cloned IbMADS10 gene is required for the development of anthocyanin pigmentation on specific tissues of the sweetpotato plant
