Assessment of ground water pollution using multivariate statistical techniques in and around Municipal Solid Waste dumpsite : A case study from Autonagar, Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India

Application of different multivariate statistical approaches for the interpretation of data during monitoring of groundwater near the MSW dumpsite in Autonagar area, Hyderabad is presented in this study. A number of physicochemical characteristics of groundwater sample around the dumpsite were analyzed so as to ascertain the extent of ground water pollution by leachates from MSW. Data set thus obtained was treated using R-Mode Factor Analysis (FA) and Principal Component Analysis (PCA) using IBM SPSS20 Statistics Software. FA identified three factors responsible for data structure explaining 65.4% of total variance and was compared with the Bureau of Indian Standards for drinking water. This allowed grouping of selected parameter according to common features and leading to the explanation of geogenic pollution.
