Novel oxidation catalysts based on a series of CeO(2)-Pr(6)O(11)-Bi(2)O(3) solid solutions are useful for effective combustion of diesel particulate matter at low temperatures, and the oxidation of particulate matter collected in a diesel particulate filter can be completed at as low as 345 degrees C.
