An Intense Red-Emitting Phosphor YBa3(PO4)(3):Eu3+ for Near-Ultraviolet Light Emitting Diodes Application

Eu3+ doped YBa3(PO4)(3) series were successfully synthesized by conventional solid state reaction and their luminescence properties were investigated. The excitation spectra suggested that Y1-xBa3(PO4)(3):xEu(3+) presented a strong absorption in near-ultraviolet region. Under 393 nm excitation, Y1-xBa3(PO4)(3):xEu(3+) exhibited an intense red emission and the optimum concentration of Eu3+ was determined to be around 40%. Comparing with the red phosphor Y2O3:Eu3+, Y0.6Ba3(PO4)(3):0.4Eu(3+) has higher emission intensity and better color purity, which indicated that Y1-xBa3(PO4)(3):xEu(3+) could be potentially applied in near ultraviolet light emitting diodes.
