摘要

The ever-changing oil and gas industry is striving to profitably develop projects relating to Health, Safety and Environmental standards worldwide. Drilling costs for oil, gas or geothermal energy have shown that they play a conclusive role in the success of a project. Rotary drilling rigs are the standard choice in reaching reservoirs and the associated mud circulation system is one of their main systems, both technically and financially. This article will focus on methods of avoiding dead-times during jobs because of mud pumps failure by means of noise interpretation in acoustic monitoring. In order to recognize possible problems in time and act accordingly, a monitoring system (continuous or regularly used) can be installed. Noise detection technologies will be described and linked to the mud pump's working condition. Two experiments will be methodically explained in order to outline what could be afresh, on-the-go method to find and solve problems in time.
