摘要

This Atomic Spectrometry Update is the latest in an annual series appearing under the title 'Atomic emission spectrometry'. The review describes developments in all aspects of atomic emission spectrometry, including fundamental processes and instrumentation.
Many of the trends evident in last year's review have been maintained. In particular the impact of array detectors continues to be significant in many areas. In ICP-AES many applications in chemometrics, and the detection of transient pulses from solid sampling and chromatography, have benefited from simultaneous detection of multiple lines. The plethora of equipment options for ICP-AES has resulted in a rash of studies on the combination of nebulizer, desolvation, axial viewing, internal standardization, etc., in order to improve figures of merit.
Many applications of LA-AES ale now leaching the published literature, including the development of portable instrumentation, and the technique has been used extensively for the investigation of ablation mechanisms. The use of LIF has grown in popularity due to the increased availability of low-cost laser diodes in the visible spectrum. Glow discharges continue to find application in many areas, particularly Sor depth profiling analysis, and the direct analysis of flowing liquid streams has been realised. The application of multicapillary or 'fast' GC promises to make a significant impact on speciation analysis using MIP-AES.
