In order to solve the problem of water hazard in coal mine, engineering measures should be adopted to draining the aquifer, draining of goaf water and exploring the abnormal area of water abundance. Some engineering project of directional drilling underground technology, including aquifer drainage, goaf water drainage and abnormal area of water abundance exploration, is used to analysis drilling effect, variation trend of water about directional drilling. According to application of aquifer drainage above the coal seam, the maximum water flow per borehole was 40.8m(3)/h, which more than normal borehole's and efficiency of aquifer drainage is increased. In terms of drainage of goaf water, the maximum length of borehole was 483m and the maximum of water flow per borehole was 200m(3)/h, threaten was eliminated after drainage. During the exploration of abnormal area of water abundance, the maximum of water flow per borehole was 200m(3)/h, erosion zone was water abundant and drainage was carried out depend on the exploration. Compared with traditional drilling method, directional drilling has some advantages, such as it effective distance of penetration in aquifer is long; drainage effect is good; trace of drilling is under control; drilling efficient is high; one borehole has different functions and branch borehole can be realized. Effect of directional drilling is good in water hazard prevention and controlling in coal mine.
