摘要

Few researches have studied the relationship between victimization in childhood and perpetration of sexual assaults against a victim with specific characteristics. This study examined a possible relationship between suffering a traumatic childhood and the sex of victims of sex offenders. The sample comprised 50 heterosexual sex offenders. Participants were asked about the presence of a traumatic childhood history and for the sex of your victims; and were divided into two groups, with traumatic and normal childhood. Sex offenders with a traumatic childhood were more likely to choose men as victims. This association was not modified by age, educational level, history of drug abuse or psychopathology, or by type of sex offence committed (against adults or against children). These results suggest that childhood abuse history is an important factor in the choice of victim characteristics. Although, future studies should aim to clarify and explain the preliminary results found in this study.
