NATECH RISK ASSESSMENT AT GAS EXPLOITATION WELL IN ROMANIA

Natural disasters are widespread and occur daily and suddenly around the world causing material damages and negative impact on people, their goods and the environment. Moreover, in case the industrial facilities are located in areas vulnerable to natural hazards, the negative impact can be highly increased by a NaTech. The scope of the current study is to underline the necessity of integrated NaTech risk assessment in the field of gas extraction based on the area vulnerability to landslides. The first step was the geomorphological risk assessment using ArcGIS software and the methodology in the normative GT 019-98 regarding the elaboration of risk maps. Afterwards, the occurrence probabilities of a NaTech accident, as well as its physical effects, were assessed using Effects 8.1 and Excel software, in order to highlight the magnitude of a NaTech event which could have taken place at the production well. The results reveal that the occurrence probability of a NaTech event at the gas exploitation well, in case the landslide has not been identified and the problem has not been solved in time, is relatively high. Furthermore, the conclusions underline the importance of performing this kind of evaluations before the establishment of an industrial facility, as well as their periodical update.
