摘要

This study dealt with the anxiety reactions in women who elected to have an abortion as compared with women who chose to carry to term. The sample comprised 140 women, 70 of whom chose to abort and 70 women who carried to term serving as a control group. The results of this study indicated higher rates of anxiety in women who chose to terminate their pregnancies. We also examined some demographic predictive factors that might have had an influence on anxiety levels. The only factor that reached statistical significance was the socioeconomic status of the women. The impact of other factors (age, marital status and educational level) was negligible. The authors propose a wider use of counseling psychological services in the obstetrics and gynecology clinics.
