摘要

We have investigated the memory effect of conducting polymers in an electrochemical environment. This memory effect was related to the electromechanical responses of the conducting polymer. We have chosen poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) because of its interesting properties, mainly the chemical and electrochemical stabilities. By means of cyclic voltammetry, we analyzed the influence of the waiting time t(w) at a holding potential E-w in relation to the conformational relaxation process occurring in the conducting polymer. The kinetics parameters of the ageing process were evaluated on the basis of the current and charge dependence on potential. Because of the interplay of the electrochemical and mechanical properties, a better understanding of the conformational relaxation processes was very helpful for the design of memory devices based on conducting polymers. Besides, the effect of electrochemical ageing on the electrical properties was explained from the viewpoint of rearrangement of polymer chains; the electrochemical results were rationalized in terms of a master curve.
