For a compact Hausdorff space X and a commutative Banach algebra A, we clarify that a result in the early paper quoted in the title regarding the weak amenability of C(X, A) actually implies the following general result: The Banach algebra C(X, A) is weakly amenable if and only if A is weakly amenable. As an example, C (X, l(p)(S)) is weakly amenable.
