摘要
An important question of electroencephalography and magnetoencephalography is associated with the possibility to identify the number of simultaneously activated areas in the brain. In the present paper, employing a homogeneous spherical conductor, serving as a geometrical model of the brain, we provide a criterion that determines whether the measured surface potential is caused by a single or a double localized neuronal excitations. We present the necessary and sufficient conditions, which decided whether the collected data originates from a single or from a set of two or more dipoles. Furthermore, we investigate the impossibility of deciding when we cannot be sure for the existence of one or two excitation centres.
