摘要

BACKGROUND: This pilot study aimed to determine the acute effect of submaximal cycling with restriction of blood flow on plasma superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase enzymes in healthy men.
METHODS: Twenty-four healthy young volunteers were divided according to maximum power into two groups: cycling with vascular occlusion of the foot (N.=12, age: 23.87 +/- 2.94 years, height: 174.81 +/- 5.91 cm, weight: 71.68 +/- 7.19 kg), and cycling without occlusion (N.=12, age: 23.5 +/- 2.32 years, height: 175.06 +/- 4.9 cm, weight: 68 +/- 7.19 kg). The activity protocol included three phases of 3 minutes of pedaling with 50% of maximum watts (W-max) with 30-45 seconds of rest between phases and 180-200 mmHg pressure on the thigh.
RESULTS: One session of submaximal cycling significantly increased superoxide dismutase (P<0.001) and glutathione peroxidase (P<0.001) activity in the occlusion group, but not in the group without occlusion.
CONCLUSIONS: We conclude that occlusion might stimulate the body's antioxidant system during submaximal exercise.
