Since the use of the hydrogen H2 is wider day by day, the number of vessels used for H2 storage will be increased in the future, and at the same time the accident occurred by the H2 leakage should be paid more attention. In this study, the model for the leakage of high pressure H2 due to storage tanks failure was established and corresponding numerical simulation method was put forward. By the numerical simulation proposed, the different characteristics of the dispersion H2 which leaks from different leakage positions of the storage tank were obtained. The simulation results show that the endangerment caused by the H2 leakage occurred in the bottom or side position of the H2 storage tank is much more serious than that caused by the leakage occurred in the top of the vessel. Furthermore, the approximate equations for the transport distance calculation of the hazard regions caused by H2 storage tanks failure were obtained. The numerical simulation results can provide reference for dealing with the leakage of high pressure hydrogen storage tanks such as the leakage occurred in hydrogen filling stations.
