摘要

To analyze the performance characteristic of 500 kV composite insulators, which could provide reference for evaluating the performance and the status of composite insulators in service, 5 pieces of 500 kV AC composite insulators and 6 pieces of 500 kV DC composite insulators were selected to be tested. The detection items included pollution measurement, hydrophobicity test, dissecting test, water diffusion test, water immersion test and steep front impulse test. Based on the tests, the contamination characteristics of the AC and DC insulators were compared and the relationship between insulators' operating years and its deterioration were studied. The application of different detection methods was also discussed. The results show that contamination of DC insulators is more serious than that of AC insulators. Moreover, contamination of DC insulators is significantly increased with the operation years, while that of AC insulators has no obvious change. Under the test conditions, there is no obvious relationship between the aging characteristics and the operating years of the tested insulators. Each of the evaluation methods is capable of reflecting a certain aspect of deterioration of composite insulators.
