A nickel-catalyzed cycloaddition of alpha,beta-unsaturated ketones with vinyl oxiranes to afford polysubstituted tetrahydrofurans has been developed. The key intermediate is a five-membered nickelacycle, which is formed by oxidative cyclization of nickel(0) to alpha,beta-unsaturated ketones.
