摘要

Bone biomechanics is associated with the human skeleton in terms of growth, development, lesion formation and prosthetic treatment. Therefore, bone biomechanics research plays a pivotal role in orthopedics. Because trabecular bone has micron-scale characteristics, the traditional macromechanics approaches such as macroscopic mechanical testing can not detect and assess the microstructure and mechanical of trabecular bone. Therefore, there is an urgent need to develop an effective experimental approach to understanding the mechanical properties of trabecular bone at micro- and nano-scales. The nanoindentation technique was developed in the 1990s and has been used to evaluate the mechanical properties of in homogenous materials. This technology facilitates investigation of the nanomechanical properties of bone material. Moreover, nanoindentation enables exploration of the mechanisms of orthopedic disease by detecting related changes in the micromechanics of bone tissue, which can greatly benefit disease assessment and drug treatment.
