摘要

A fired heat-insulation hollow block, which has approximate dimensions of 240 mm (L) x 200 mm (W) x 190 mm (H) and a density of 850 kg/m(3), is a new type of wall material made from shale and coal gangue. This material would protect cultivated lands and has less negative environmental effects. However, its mechanical properties must be examined to promote its popularisation and application. Hence, in this study, we determined the compression strength of block, mortar and masonry prisms under uniaxial compression, the shear strength of the specimens under biaxial stress state, and the shear resistance of the masonry wall via low-cyclic reversed loading test. The formulas for the compressive strength and the stress-strain curve were also provided. Result of this test process showed that the spalling of the external surface of the block occurred when the specimens lost their bearing capacity.
