Associations of Teen Dating Violence Victimization With School Violence and Bullying Among US High School Students

<jats:title>ABSTRACT</jats:title><jats:sec><jats:title>BACKGROUND</jats:title><jats:p>Teen dating violence (<jats:styled-content style="fixed-case">TDV</jats:styled-content>) negatively impacts health, mental and physical well‐being, and school performance.</jats:p></jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title>METHODS</jats:title><jats:p>Data from a nationally representative sample of high school students participating in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (<jats:styled-content style="fixed-case">CDC</jats:styled-content>)'s 2013 Youth Risk Behavior Survey (<jats:styled-content style="fixed-case">YRBS</jats:styled-content>) are used to demonstrate associations of physical and sexual <jats:styled-content style="fixed-case">TDV</jats:styled-content> with school violence‐related experiences and behaviors, including bullying victimization. Bivariate and adjusted sex‐stratified regressions assessed relationships between <jats:styled-content style="fixed-case">TDV</jats:styled-content> and school violence‐related experiences and behaviors.</jats:p></jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title>RESULTS</jats:title><jats:p>Compared to students not reporting <jats:styled-content style="fixed-case">TDV</jats:styled-content>, those experiencing both physical and sexual <jats:styled-content style="fixed-case">TDV</jats:styled-content> were more likely to report carrying a weapon at school, missing school because they felt unsafe, being threatened or injured with a weapon on school property, having a physical fight at school, and being bullied on school property.</jats:p></jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title>CONCLUSIONS</jats:title><jats:p>School‐based prevention efforts should target multiple forms of violence.</jats:p></jats:sec>
