Orbital order, magnetism, and ferroelectricity of multiferroic BiMnO3

Epitaxial thin films of multiferroic BiMnO3 were synthesized on SrTiO3 substrates. Long range ordering of the Mn(3+)e(g) orbitals was probed with Mn K-edge resonant X-ray scattering. Magnetic properties of the thin films were also investigated. The inter-relation between the orbital, magnetic, and ferroelectric degrees of freedom are shown.
