Phase anomaly and phase singularities of the field in the focal region of high-numerical aperture systems

The phase behavior of the three Cartesian components of the electric field in the focal region of a high-numerical aperture focusing system is studied. The Gouy phase anomaly and the occurence of phase singularities are examined in detail. It is found that the three field components exhibit different behaviors.
