Determination of Tricresyl Phosphate Plasticizer in Polyvinylchloride Plastic by Precipitation Separation-Gas Chromatographic Method

A method was established for the determination of tricresyl phosphate(TCP) plasticizer in polyvinylchloride (PVC) plastic by precipitation separation pretreatment and gas chromatographic (GC) method. The sample was dissolved by tetrahydrofuran (THF), and methanol was added into the solution to produce PVC precipitates, then the tricresyl phosphate was effectively separated from PVC polymer. Tricresyl phosphate in the solution was analyzed by GC with flame photometric detector (FPD). The linear range of the determination was 0.1-2.0 mg/L with the correlation coefficient of 0.999. The average recoveries ranged from 82.9% to 99.1%, and the RSD ranged from 0.8% to 5.9%. The detection limit was as low as 50 mg/kg. This developed method is simple, effective and suitable for the determination of tricresyl phosphate plasticizer in polyvinylchloride plastic.
